October Birthstones - Opal, Tourmaline & Jasper

October Birthstones: Opal, Tourmaline & Jasper

The modern & Ayurvedic birthstone for October is Opal, the traditional birthstone is tourmaline and the mystical birthstone is jasper. Opal is a mineraloid gel which is deposited at a relatively low temperature and may occur in the fissures of almost any kind of rock, being most commonly found with limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl and basalt. Opal is said to be an overall chakra tuner.

Tourmaline is a crystal silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is reputed to keep one in the here and now.

Jasper is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color. Jasper is said to bring good fortune and new beginnings to the wearer!!

October always gets me in the mood for crisp days filled with colorful leaves & the beginning of the Holiday madness :) While Down-Under in Australia it is spring time with Spring breaks & all. Read more about it on Annette's blog: Under the Loupe.
